Name

Enzo

Breed

Bernese Mountain Dog

Birth Date

April 15, 2016 to August 24, 2025

Weight

100 lbs.

Personality

Enzo is very friendly and affectionate and wants to stop and visit everyone we pass on our walks. He’s very eager to please and treat/food motivated. He’s also very sensitive and becomes dismayed when voices are raised (such as when I drop a dish, or worse), but is ready to come and nuzzle when it’s clear that everything’s OK. He is wonderful with kids and infants, and associates anyone wearing hospital scrubs with getting lots of pets and affection. I suspect he favors women over men, although it may be that he just gets a bigger response from them.

Awards/Titles:

Pet Partner since 2019

How do you know that your dog loves therapy work?

He’s never met a treat he hasn’t liked (although he can be particular about his cheese varieties).

In Memory

Our beautiful Bernese Mountain Dog Enzo died yesterday, August 24th, from a fast growing cancer.

I loved being able to share Enzo and his affection with so many people during his six years as a therapy dog with Pawsitive Pet Therapy. His excitement at seeing me get his yellow Pet Partners vest out told me that he loved it as well.

Enzo visited many elementary schools, high schools and colleges over the years, some senior residences, and Loyola and Hines VA departments. His main visit was at MacNeal Hospital where he and his friend Chang Carter would often enter various wards to hear squeals of "Enzo!" And "Chang!"

Enzo was a good traveler, and we loved bringing him wherever we went, including Vermont, Ontario, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin to see friends and family who were kind enough to include him in their invitations.

His beauty and warmth made an impression on so many. To our knowledge at least two dogs and two baby boys were named "Enzo", in whole or in part after him.

Our house, and my heart, seem very empty today without him
